I rebuild my machines on a fairly regular basis.  One of the chores is to re-setup my batch printers (I have a lot of them.)  I'd like to see a configuration export/import function added.  This would also serve as backup method and would allow me to create configuration  templates I could transfer to the multiple VMs I run on my machine.  If there is already a way of doing this that I'm unaware of, please let me know.

Thanks...Curt

Hi Curt,

Good question. Here is how you can re-create your batch printers on a new PC quickly:

  1. Backup the folder that contains your batch printer definition files. It is located here (substitute your login where it says USERNAME):
    • WinXP: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\PDF reDirect\Batch_Printers
    • Win Vista & Win7: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\PDF reDirect\Batch_Printers
  2. If you want to keep your settings, also copy your settings file located here:
    1. WinXP: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\PDF reDirect\Prefs_v2.ini
    2. Win Vista & Win7: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\PDF reDirect\Prefs_v2.ini
  3. On the new computer, restore (or copy) the above folder and settings file to the same location.
  4. Run the PDF reDirect Pro Installation program. If PDF reDirect Pro is already installed, then re-run it "on top" of the current installation. The batch printers will be re-installed automatically.
I like the idea of an import/export feature, and have added that request to my "todo" list.

   Cheers!

Would you by chance know where this is saved on a Win2k3 machine? I found a folder called batch_printers, but it is blank.

Last search I did shows Win2k3 saves it under All Users\Application Data\PDF reDirect\Batch_Printers.

Hi,

It might depend on how your server is being used. However, on my user, "All users" does not have the folder, but each user account has it's own PDF reDirect folder.

But that may be because I have installed PDF reDirect on my server on such a way that each user can save his own settings.

   I hope that helps.
