Hi,

Could be a couple of reasons. Some programs give you the option to print as an "image" rather than as text. Printing as text will allow the text to be searchable.

The other option may be specific to the kind of files you are printing. Which program are you printing from?

Hi,
I have the same problem with the output of a Portuguese aplication of Accountancy. The output PDF is not searchable, and I don't have any option to specify the output, just normal print.

I printed the PDF file generated with ReDirected using th BullZipPDF Printer, using Adobe Reader and I obtain a searchable PDF.

Therea are any option to ReDirected create always searchable PDF's ?

Hi there,

There could be a couple of reasons. The first thing I would try is to tell PDF reDirect not to use subset fonts, and instead use the entire font. Check under Preferences >> Properties >> Fonts Header >> Select "Embed Entire Fonts".

Now create your PDF. Does that work?

If it still does not work, then also select Preferences >> Properties >> Fonts Header >> Select "Embed Standard Fonts in the PDF".

Now create your PDF. Does that work?

If that still does not work, please let me know. There is one more thing I can ask you to check.

   Cheers!

Michel

Hi,

The last thing we can try is an updated version of the PDF conversion engine. I would recommend v8.64 which will be the version in the next release of PDF reDirect. You can get it from here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ghostscript/files/GPL%20Ghostscript/8.64/gs864w32.exe/download

Once installed, please start PDF reDirect >> Preferences >> General >> Conversion Engine >> Select AFPL Ghostscript >> and select the folder call C:\Program Files\gs8.64\bin

You can now get out of the preferences, and exit PDF reDirect.

Now, create a new PDF. Does that work?

   Kindest regards,

Hi Michel,

Yes, it works. Thank you for the support.

Now I have another problem, please tell me if I should open a new topic for this subject.

Trying print with Adobe Reader a PDF file to a output file with multiple pages, the PDF reDirect just don't do nothing. I try print with Adobe Reader a single page and just don't work.

Is this related with the instalation of the new Ghostscript or another problem?

Best regards,
Miguel Ruela

Hi Miguel,

Thanks for the update. This is good news! :)

This post is fine for the 2nd question.

Printing a new PDF from an existing PDF via Adobe PDF Reader is called "re-printing" and may or may not work. In particular, older versions of PDF Reader would not work (up to v8). Eventually, Adobe decided to allow users to allow re-printing with v9 and v10 (X), but only for PDF files that are not encrypted or locked (for example, if printing is restricted).

So, for your file - I would check the following two things:
  1. Check the "security" settings on your PDF file in Adobe Reader >> File Menu >> Properties >> Security Tab.
  2. When you say PDF reDirect does nothing after printing: check to see if PDF reDirect has a warning message box in the background with an error - which will likely say "-100".
If the above two things do not help, please let me know: I can send you instructions to record an error log to see what is going on.

   Cheers!

Hi Michel,

I'm using Adobe Reader X 10.1.3
The file that I'm trying to print was created by PDF reDirect using merger and I checked that dont' have any security activated.

After a few more tests I got a system message saying:
"Data Processor for PDF reDirect left work"

In the PDF reDirect window just put a (?) and (0 kB) in the output file. Don't say anything else.

Best regards,
Miguel Ruela
