Hi,
 

 Help!!! I am having a problem with 2.2.8, every time my user goes to print she getting a error "PDF Engine Error. (Error code:-100) Fine not created.

Attached is the log file.

 

I was able to bypass this error by changing the user to a local Administrator. Once I removed the access the error came back.....  Also the user has been given full right to each path listed in the log file....  Any help would be great! :)

Hi,

   Thanks for the log. That helped.

   The error is because your user does not have Read/Write permission to the Windows "Temp" folder located at C:\Windows\Temp.

   This is a common problem which has been fixed in the beta v2.2.921 available [here], so you can use that, or simply give access to that folder to the user.

I'm getting the same "Engine Error - 100", but only on one particular page of the document I'm printing.  Other pages work, and I'm running as an Administrator, so I don't think it's a permissions problem.  Log is below...

Hi,

   Does the error also occur if you print "just" that one page that otherwise causes the error?

   If it is a data amount/processing issue, I have had some users that were able to print the 1st and the 2nd halves of the document, and then simply merge the two together.

   Hopefully this workaround will work for you.

I am only printing one page, to start with. (Your question was not directed to me).
I also tried now to switch off User Account Control, no success.
I didn't mention this so far, my account is an administrator account (under Vista).

Should user processes try to write to C:\Windows\temp at all ? They have their own storage at ...\Local Settings\temp, isn't it ?

Hi,

   The Windows\Temp folder used to be the defacto "temporary" folder up to Windows 98/ME, and a transition occurred through Windows 2000, XP and even Vista/Win 7 - with Microsoft nudging programmers to use the user's local space. The new Beta uses that location exclusively.

   For the current (v2.2.8) version, that temp folder still works for most users - except for some IT departments that restrict R/W to that folder.

   Does the -100 error occur with all documents, or only specific documents?

   If all documents generate the -100 error, and the beta had no effect, then I would suspect a "bad" installation - for lack of a better word. I would try:

1. A reboot (I had a customer who had been running his computer for over 90 days non-stop.  A reboot was the fix for him), or

2. A removal, reboot, and re-install.

After that - I am out of ideas (sorry).

If the error is occasional, it might be tied to specific content being printed. For example, a specific object in the output.

Finally, there can be problems for "unicode" users (Japanese, Chinese, etc.) - and again, these have been addressed in the beta.

The -100 error occurs for 1 specific document (even if printing one page).
But what sort of object could cause PDF Redirect to fail ? I can print that specific page to a normal printer. The document is pure english, no chinese included.

Sorry for the delay in my response. I missed seeing the e-mail notice that there was a new post.

To answer your question: I don't know. I had one person who had this one picture in a document that was causing the problem. He simply deleted it, and re-inserted it, and it was ok.

Things you can also try might include copy/paste into a new document, or trying to change the font used.
