Hello,

I have the old version... something like 1.12.

I just finished downloading the newer version 2.2.5 to my desktop.  When I ran it, I could not get it to work.  I keep getting the error message as seen below:

PDF%20Failed%20Download

Can someone please offer any opinions on getting this fixed?

Also, I'll make another thread, but I was trying to use my old version to see if I could convert WordPad and Microsoft Works word processor into a PDF document and I kept getting the message ActiveX can't do... oh I forgot. I have it in another thread.   LOL!

Now I can't even open my old version.  Keeps getting worse.

Matt

I am sorry that you are having this problem. It looks like "Capture.exe" (the PDF conversion and management portion of the software) might still be running, thus preventing the installer to write the new file.

There are two ways to fix the problem:

1. Reboot, or

2. Open the Task Manager ([CTRL]+[ALT]+[DEL]), find Capture.exe in the list of programs that are running, and then click the "End Task" button.

Finally, try installing again: it should work better this time around.

Best regards,

Ok, sorry I can't help much, but got the new version stalled properly and I didn't do anything different... just worked on it's own.

After it installed, I ran it and it works good without the ActiveX problem I was having before.  Got MS Works Word Processor and WordPad to successfully be converted to a PDF!  Yeah, great!

Thanks for your effort.  I see you're the champ when it comes to helping people with their problems.

I think the boss man should give you a raise. ;-)

Thanks,

Matt

Thanks for the update Matt. Glad to hear that it's working better. I'm my own boss so I'll give myself a pat on the back instead. Smile

Cheers!

Hi Michel,

I have a minor problem that is something similar. I have Professional version 2.1.12.

When I attempt to upgrade, I get an error message something like:- "PDF ReDirect not found on this computer, installation aborted"
I am happy with version 2.1.12, but it would be interesting if you could throw any light on to why I am having a problem upgrading.

Rgds.

Hi Chi,

There is one key difference that might be causing the problem. v2.2.5 is Vista compatible. Achieving that means that the program must be installed in the default (Program Files) folder. I incorporated that logic, and as a result, the upgrade might fail as you described if your currently installation is a customized location.

In your case, I would recommend that you uninstall PDF reDirect Pro (your settings file will not be deleted), and then download and install the full version 2.2.5. The installation is pretty quick, and your settings should be recovered automatically.

   I hope that helps!

Michel

Sorry, forgot to post the download link [ http://www.exp-systems.com/PDFreDirect/Download/Install%20PDFR%20Pro.exe - here ]. Also forgot to mention that v2.2.8 will be released later today. Changes between v2.2.5 and v2.2.8 are as follows (mostly minor stuff):

ADDED: Admin CmdLine utility to install the Batch Printer to users on a PC
IMPROVED: resilience when encrypting files to a network drive.
IMPROVED: Improve compatibility w Acrobat v7 & v8 by not removing Printer Files after Install
IMPROVED: Printer Installer now goes to 100% complete when removing printers

v2.2.7 Testing version, not released.

v2.2.6 Official Release (7/6/08)
-----------------
FIXED: Bugs in the ActiveX Component and the sample VBA Code
FIXED: Bug in FTP Connection code which prevented connecting to an FTP account.
IMPROVED: Added ANSI paper sizes to printer (requires full install)
IMPROVED: quality of preview

Hi Michel,

Yes, I did install my PDF ReDirect into a custom location, so I believe your explanation is more than likely the reason for my problem.
I didn't try your uninstall suggestion yet, as I think it may be worthwhile waiting for Version v2.2.8

As a courtesy, I will let you know if all goes well or if I encounter anymore problems.

Your reply was prompt and clear as always, so many thanks for that.

Regards.

Chi.

Hi Michel,

v2.2.8 installed and working fine. I love it.

Just a reminder to any AutoCAD users out there who use AutoCAD version 2004 or earlier. Take a look at this earlier thread: -
http://www.exp-systems.com/forum_exp/forum_posts.asp?TID=190 - http://www.exp-systems.com/forum_exp/forum_posts.asp?TID=190

In addition, printing AutoCAD to PDF works best if in the AutoCAD plot dialogue box, the landscape "print upside down box" is checked.

And for a perfect AutoCAD plot, I personally set the PDF reDirect custom paper size settings for both A3 and A4 prints to a figure of 6, from top bottom, left and right.

Works a treat.

For my own circumstances as someone who uses AutoCAD every day, the outstanding feature of PDF reDirect is that I can batch plot unlimited AutoCad drawings to PDF, swiftly and easily.

I am a happy chap.

Thanks Chi for your kind remarks and insights with AutoCAD.

v2.3.0 is nearly complete as well. v2.2.8 was to address a couple of immediate requests such as the ANSI paper sizes. In addition, v2.2.3 improves the preview, adds a 0 deg page rotation and adds support for Unicode characters in the path and the filename (and other stuff).

Cheers!
