Subject: Error when combining PDF's

I'm trying to combine eight PDF's into one. This has worked before, though I've made slight changes in four of them.

When I try to save all eight to one called "total.pdf", I get the message:

"An error occured. The PDF file was not created properly. One of the files on the Merge List is missing or encrypted."

So I picked two of the pdf's. (I can save either one to "total.pdf" --
which is of course silly, converting a PDF to a PDF). But when I try to save
both of then to "total.pdf" I again get the above error message.

Further experimenting shows me that the four which I've recently changed are causing the problem. If I take the four that weren't changed, I can save them to "total.pdf". But when I add any of those I just changed, I get the above error. As far as I know, I created the new PDF's exactly the same way that I created the old ones.

What am I doing wrong? As I said, I've done all this before. The files are
all locked, with copying and printing prohibited, but as far as I know
none are encrypted.

Hi Monty,

I believe the key in your message is this "The files are all locked, with copying and printing prohibited". So, I have to apologize for my error message which is not as clear as it needs to be. However, locking the PDF will also prevent modifications including merging with other PDF files.

Your best bet is to make sure that all of your original PDF files are not locked nor encrypted. Merge them together and, at the same time (or later), apply any lock or encryption as you deem necessary.

I am sorry for the confusion. I will be adding a more detailed error message in the next version to be more clear.

   Happy Holidays!

Dar Michel,

That fixed it for me. Thanks.
