I have just reinstalled PDF Redirect onto a new PC (Win 7) and saving the same files results in a larger size. What's up?

Normally about 15 - 20 kB, now 50 - 100 kB.

I have been using the same "Good" default size for years now and nothing else has changed except fora new PC with Win 7 from XP.

Not sure if it was the change to Win 7 or a recent update to 2.5.2.

Steve

Hi,

Might depend on the fonts used, and the number of characters used due to the subset feature.

For example, if the Windows 7 font definition has more data (curvature points), the data for the fonts may have increased - resulting in larger PDF files.

   Cheers!

Oh yes, I understand now. A good explanation.

It is always the same thing, IE, after making online banking EFT's, I "print" out the transaction via PDF reDirect and safe it in a transaction file. Files in XP were quite small around 15 - 20 kB, but now 50 - 70 kB for the same page. But yes, I understand what you mean.

Other word doc, actually OpenOffice.odt files appear to be unchanged though. Does Autocad nicely too.

This is one of the best pdf programs as it is simple to use and very intuitive.

Thanks, Steve.

Hi Steve,

   Thanks for the kudos! Smile

Good info on the file sizes.

I am curious: are you using IE9? If so, the fonts sent by IE9 are "different" (not sure what Microsoft is doing), but you will also find that you can no longer copy-and-paste out of IE9 generated PDF files (whether using PDF reDirect, or any other PDF creator program). That might also explain better the file size increase. There is more information [ http://www.exp-systems.com/Forum_exp/forum_posts.asp?TID=733&PID=2915#2915 - here ] and [ http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie9-windows_other/ie9-printing-problems-text-is-garbled-when-trying/45457b91-5472-4cf2-951d-79553fff072b - here ].

   I hope that helps.

   Cheers!

Michel,

I am using Firefox, but I tried IE9 and file sizes are the same. It must just be a Win 7 thing.

Regards, Steve
