Subject: An Error occurred. The PDF File was not created...

Hello,

I am attempting to merge around 80 PDFs into one for a comic strip book I'm creating.  I can merge the first 69 together, and the last 11 or so together, but if I try to merge all 80, I get "An Error Occurred. The PDF File was not created properly."

My error log shows:

If you need additional information from me, please let me know.  Is there a size limit to the PDFs that can be created?  Again, if I select any combination of the 80 (as long as it's in the 65ish range of number of files), it works fine.  Even if I create two PDFs from the two ranges mentioned above, and then try to combine those two newly-created PDFs, I still get the same error.

Thank you for your time and support!

Hi,

I would try this (in case it is a low memory problem)

   Merge the 1st 40 together into a "File_A.pdf"
   Merge the 2nd 40 together into a "File_B.pdf"
Merge"File_A.pdf" and  "File_B.pdf" into the final product.

If that does not work, then I would try to find which if the PDF files is the offending PDF (the 69th), and I would regenerate that PDF to fix the problem inside that file. If you cannot re-generate that file, try re-printing it (ie open in Adobe Reader >> Print via PDF reDirect). The new (re-printed) PDF should merge OK.

Please let me know if I am not making sense.

   Cheers!

I appreciate the feedback, but I had actually already tried that.  Let me tell you what I tried.

First I tried merging all 79 PDFs at once.  That didn't work, but since I used to be a software tester, I started removing files.  First I removed 15, down to 64 and that worked.  So I started adding PDFs back in.  I could merge 1-69 without problem, but when I added #70, it would error.  So I assumed it was the problem and removed it.  However even if I tried to combine 1-79 without 70, it would still error.

Next I tried 70 by itself and that worked.  So then I tried 70-79 and they merged fine.  Next I tried 50-79 and the worked fine.

So my thought was the same as yours.  I made two small files, one that contained 1-69 and the other that contained 70-79.  Then I tried to combine those to new PDFs together, and I got the error.

The final thing I tried tonight was to create one PDF from files 1-39 (263MB) and one from files 40-78 (422MB).  The created fine.  Then I took those two new PDFs and attempted to combine them, at which point I got the error.

Let me know if I can provide any additional information, and thank you for looking into it.

Hi 3Dave,

Thank you for trying to figure out if it was one "offending" document that was the problem.

This is what I recommend (a little bit of a shot in the dark):

Open #70 in Adobe Reader, and re-print it using the PDF reDirect Pro. Now try to merge 1-69 and the reprinted 70 rather than the original 70.

   Does that work?

   Cheers!
